The opportunity

Better inputs.
Better yield.

Farmers can overuse fertilizer when they do not have timely, localized information about soil and crop conditions. EcoYield was our attempt to make those decisions more precise: measure what is happening in the field, combine it with context, and turn the result into a recommendation that is easier to act on.

The problem we framed

Higher input costs, soil degradation, and environmental harm can all come from applying more fertilizer than a field needs. The challenge was to support practical decisions without adding unnecessary complexity for rural users.

The product idea

EcoYield brings soil readings, weather conditions, and historical patterns into one workflow. The output is a focused recommendation rather than another dashboard to interpret.

How it works

Sense

Collect NPK, pH, moisture, and temperature readings through a low-power ESP32 sensor unit.

Connect

Transmit field data over LoRa and make it available to the application layer through AWS IoT.

Recommend

Use machine-learning models and context to surface a practical fertilizer recommendation for the farmer.

Why it matters

Lower waste

More precise recommendations can reduce unnecessary fertilizer use and lower avoidable input costs.

A candid note

We were not selected for the final round.

That outcome did not make the work less valuable. Building EcoYield strengthened our foundation in AI, IoT, cloud integration, research, and collaboration. More importantly, it taught us to connect technical ambition with the daily reality of the people a product is meant to serve.
